Sociological studies show that feeling unsafe is a phenomenon that affects people differently depending on social and gender differences. The Enquete Nationale sur les Violences Envers les Femmes en France survey (Enveff) shows that women’s fears hamper their mobility and the ways they interact in public spaces. Women expressed fear of going out alone at night, and although this didn’t stop them from going out, those who went out more often experienced greater anxiety. Women’s anxiety is caused by the fear of the possible experiences of victimization.
A study by Stop Street Harassment found that sexual harassment can have psychological effects on people. Victims of street harassment suffer from anxiety or depression, and they often change their lives to reduce the risk of being harassed again. Most people experience sexual harassment at an early, and many people find that being silent about it is easier than confronting the perpetrators.

Technology
Nowadays, many people have phones that they with them at all times. The app would be compatible with android and iOS devices. By creating an app, people with an electronic device have access to a portable safety system. redPhone was created to protect people and to give them safer mobility, and technology assists in allowing people to access the app wherever they are. Technology also allows for instant communication which is the foundation of my idea. By allowing people to quickly access the messaging app to send their location, people can instantly share their location to keep them safe.

Engineering
Throughout the capstone project, I have used the engineering design process to create RedPhone. I started by identifying a problem, then conducting research, brainstorming solutions, and then creating a prototype. These principles have allowed me to test my hypothetical solution and optimize my prototype as needed.

Art
The app logo resembles the actual phone app logo on iOS to make redPhone inconspicuous. The user interface resembles the iOS phone app to keep an outsider from recognizing that the phone calls are fake. Deceiving the outsider is the purpose of the app and art allows the app to stay hidden.

Math
I used my knowledge of statistics to gather and analyze data that was reliable. I chose data that contained large sample sizes because the results would more closely approximate the population. I also considered the characteristics of the sample population. For example, the data I analyzed had to include all genders, races, and economic backgrounds because I was researching a problem that affects all people. I used surveys from the U.S to support my findings of the U.S, and survey's from other countries to support my findings of those countries. This increases the validity of my claims. I also took into consideration the limitations of the surveys I used because people can answer surveys with some bias. Knowing this, I only used data where there was some statistical significance between men's and women's responses. I made sure that I was using data from websites/organizations that supplied information about their survey methods.
