Studies show that many people experience sexual harassment or street harassment. Street harassment is unwanted interaction between a perpetrator and a victim that involves catcalls, sexual comments, threats, or being followed, and it can occur in stores, on public transportation, on streets, and in other public spaces. People of color, lower-income and the LGBTQ+ community are disproportionately affected by street harassment. However, across all ages, races, income levels, and sexual orientations women are more likely than men to say they feel unsafe in public spaces or when walking alone, especially at night. Street harassment is prevalent and it can cause people, women especially, emotional and psychological harm. 

      Everyone runs the risk of being in a situation where they are being followed by a stranger, and if they are alone, they are more vulnerable. The app redPhone will ensure that the user doesn’t appear to be alone and vulnerable. The app can imitate a conversation that can then be placed on speaker. The user will have the option to choose the kind of voice and conversation to use for their fake phone call.

Users can also choose to have a fake video call. Access to an alarm, instant messaging, and 9-1-1 are available on the app.
